About NASA International Space Apps Challenge
The NASA International Space Apps Challenge is the world’s largest annual global hackathon, engaging students, developers, scientists, designers, and innovators in collaborative problem-solving using NASA’s open data.
Hosted in over 300 locations worldwide, the event encourages participants to tackle real-world challenges related to space exploration, Earth science, climate change, and sustainability. It provides a collaborative platform where diverse talents come together to innovate and create impactful solutions.
Our college is proud to host this 48-hour hackathon, giving students a unique opportunity to work in teams, apply their skills, and build innovative solutions with real-world impact. The event promotes interdisciplinary learning and inspires participants to think creatively, work collaboratively, and explore the power of data-driven innovation.
Space Apps is more than just a coding competition—it’s a platform for participants to engage with global challenges, gain hands-on experience, and join a worldwide community of problem-solvers. Whether your passion lies in programming, storytelling, design, or research, the challenge welcomes all curious minds eager to make a difference.
- Structure
Participants in the NASA International Space Apps Challenge are required to select a challenge and submit a functional, working model of their project before the deadline.
Evaluation will happen concurrently with mentoring sessions, and attendance at these sessions is mandatory. Anyone who misses the mentoring will not be considered for the final judging.
Participants must monitor their registered email for important updates and complete registration on the official NASA Space Apps Challenge website for the Chennai event: https://www.spaceappschallenge.org/2025/local-events/chennai/
All participants who officially register and submit their projects through the site will receive a certificate of participation.
Please Note: Accommodation and food will not be provided by the event organizers. Participants are responsible for making their own arrangements.

Hackathon Kick-off
- October 4th, 12:00 AM: The global hackathon officially begins!
Day 1: Saturday, October 4th, 2025
- 8:30 AM: Assemble at the Venue & Check-in
- 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM: Inauguration Ceremony
- 10:00 AM: Coding Begins!
- 11:00 AM: Mentoring Round 1
- 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM: Lunch Break
- 2:00 PM: Coding Resumes
- 5:00 PM: Day 1 On-site Activities Conclude
(Note: The venue activities end, but your team can continue working on the project remotely.)
Day 2: Sunday, October 5th, 2025
- 9:00 AM: Assemble at Venue / Day 2 Begins
- 9:00 AM: Coding Continues
- 10:30 AM: Mentoring Round 2
- 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM: Lunch Break
- 1:30 PM: Coding Resumes
- 2:30 PM: Final Mentoring Round
- 5:00 PM: Day 2 On-site Activities & Closing Remarks Conclude
Final Deadline
- October 5th, 11:59 PM (Online): Final Project Submission Deadline! All projects must be submitted via the NASA Space Apps Challenge website .

2. Who can participate?
Everyone is welcome! The event is open to people of all skill levels and backgrounds, including students, professionals, artists, and scientists.
3. Is there a fee to participate?
No, participation in the NASA Space Apps Challenge is completely free.
4. How do I register for the Chennai event?

5. How are teams formed and what is the team size?
Participants are responsible for forming their own teams. The official team size is 1 to 6 members. You can use the official Space Apps chat and forums to connect with other participants and find teammates.
6. What kind of project do we need to submit?
Your team is expected to develop a working model or a functional prototype that provides a solution to one of the official challenges.
Event Rules & Logistics
7. Is attending the mentoring session mandatory?
Yes, absolutely. Mentoring sessions are crucial, and the evaluation process runs in parallel with them. Participants who miss these sessions will not be eligible for the final judging.
8. Will food or accommodation be provided?
No. Participants are responsible for arranging their own food, travel, and accommodation for the duration of the event.
9. What should I bring to the hackathon?
You should bring your laptop, charger, any hardware you might need for your project, a valid ID for check-in, and plenty of creative energy!
